During our life time we come across various turning-points. Some we call "troubles", some "challenges".
These are relatively short moments, in which we need to decide upon something we haven't come across so far. There's always some new, unknown situation that puts us in a position of "making a decision".
No meter if what we decide makes us feel really good or we experience failure, those moments determine some key points on our timeline. We do not forget them, they build our experience, character, identity. In which moment do we become brave and in which do we wish the ground under our feet to "open"? What is the thing that force us to be brave?
Few times in life I was referred as being brave. Am I? How? Why? Is there a specific situation in which the fear only becomes stronger, so that it "sets its own conditions"; fear of failure, fear of public embarrassment, of lethargic life, fear of death and so on.., depending on a situation. Do we become brave when some other fear overcomes us?
In video work "10m" I have put myself in a situation of suspense. I am standing on the edge of the diving platform, 10 meters above the public swimming pool. This situation symbolically represents one of the intense moments after which we go further as winners, or we come down taking stairs...
The video work is shown on a large wall projection so that every little detail of my movements, face gestures and breading can be visible. It is followed by the sound of breading and the noise of the public pool. Video goes in loop like this, by freezing this moment of uncertainty and suspense: will I jump, or not... Which one of the fears will form my decision fear of dying or fear of embarrassment?..
